The department has the ability to diagnose and treat almost all types of visual organ disease in children:

- in case of eye injury (penetrating eyeball wounds) the whole spectrum of surgical treatment is carried out, including reconstructive treatment with restoration not only of anatomical state, but also with return of visual functions. Treatment strategies are based on the experience of modern foreign ophthalmology, as well as on their own experience;

-in case of orbit injury (broken orbital walls with impaired eye movement) reconstruction surgeries in children have been carried out only in the department of the Center for 20 years;

- early diagnosis and early treatment of various types of congenital anomalies;

- surgical treatment of all types of retinal detachment (traumatic, traction, in retinal dystrophy), especially intraocular interventions using modern advances in world ophthalmology;

- the greatest progress has been made in treating the most frequent and severe retinal disease in children - retinopathy of prematurity. Independent experience in conducting vitreoretinal interventions based on foreign colleagues has been accumulated, as well as own original methods have been developed. Thanks to the improvement of surgical intervention technique in the most recent generation of surgical equipment for ophthalmology (combined surgical system for intraocular interventions (Constellation, Alcon), optimizing the timing of its implementation and developing a rehabilitation program, unique results were obtained: restoration of visual functions in children considered hopelessly blind 3-4 years ago. Work to date is actively continuing to improve the diagnosis and laser treatment of retinopathy of prematurity and prevent vision loss.

The possibilities of the department in this direction are supported by the availability of modern equipment:

  • digital pediatric camera (Ret Cam3, Clarity);
  • optical coherent tomographs (for front segment: Visant OCT, Carl Zeiss and for back segment: OCT Stratus, Carl Zeiss);
  • laser equipment (Iridex, 532, combined laser system Visulas Yag III Combi, Carl Zeiss).

Diagnostic methods:

  • Electrophysiological examination (EFI) of optic nerve and retina;
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the retina, optic nerve, anterior segment of the eyeball.
  • Photorecording of the eye bottom with the fundus camera and with the wide-angle retinal camera (RetCam3);

Surgical treatment methods:

  • intraocular interventions (vitrectomy) in vitreoretinal pathology of various genesis, including in retinopathy of prematurity;
  • scleral filling;
  • cataract extraction;
  • traditional surgical treatment of glaucoma, laser cyclophotocoagulation, implantation of drainage system;
  • plastic of the lower and inner walls of the orbit during fractures;
  • surgical correction of strabismus on all straight and oblique muscles;
  • surgical correction of ptosis by shortening the levator and by hanging the silicone ligature from the frontal muscle;
  • laser surgical treatment for retinopathy of premature, peripheral retinal dystrophies, Coats retinitis, etc.;
  • removal of small neoplasms of the eyelids and conjunctiva, including using laser coagulation;
  • probing and washing of the lacrimal tract in nasolacrimal canal stenosis.;
  • intubation of lacrimal pathways with ligature

Therapeutic treatment methods:

  • selection of spectacle correction of any difficulty;
  • orthoptic and pleoptic treatment for strabismus and amblyopia;
  • treatment of inflammatory eye diseases (keratitis, iridocyclitis, uveitis, chorioretinitis, including subconjunctival, peribulbar and retrobulbar injections, physiotherapeutic methods;
  • antihypertensive glaucoma therapy of various genesis;
